Seeing the potential of this area and the ever increasing tourism, many transport connectivity-related developmental projects have been proposed by the government.
Roll-On Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) ferry services
Financial pundits believe that economic growth improves with better connectivity. Alibag is fast developing to be the luxe-leisure spot in Mumbai’s vicinity. Premium real estate development is expected to grow tremendously over the years, and the economic growth too will get a boost with the introduction of Roll-On Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) ferry services. The passenger terminal at Ferry Wharf for east coast inland water transport to Mandwa (Alibaug) is already 'work in progress', and is expected to be completed by 2018 end. Roll on - Roll off ferry services will enable ferrying cars across from Mumbai – Alibaug easily.
Trans-Harbour Sea Link
The proposed Mumbai-Alibag Trans-Harbour Sea Link aims to transform a three-hour drive between Alibag and South Mumbai, to a quick hour, making Alibag the perfect getaway destination. This link is proposed to be an Expressway link, with a 6-lane dual carriageway. It is expected to be ready by 2022.
Railway
A double-track Metro rail has been proposed along the Trans-Harbour Link, to connect both sides of the bay. Currently, the Konkan railway network connects Mumbai to Pen.
Virar-Alibag Link
The upcoming Virar-Alibag road link aims to shorten travel time to one hour, from the present four hours. The expressway, formulated by MMRDA will be a 100 kms, 8-lane corridor with a Metro rail link in the centre.
Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS)
Proposed on the Virar-Alibag Link, the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) will have two service lanes, taking the total number of road lanes to 10.
Rewas-Aware Port
The proposed Rewas-Aware Port will serve as an alternate deep draft port to the existing Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) facilities. This port is planned 10 kms south of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port, which is located in the P.A.R.K. (Panvel-Alibag-Revdanda-Kashid) region.
International Airport
A new International airport planned, will offer state-of-the-art, world class facilities to passengers, cargo, aircrafts and airlines. Proposed at Kopra-Panvel, this will be built through public-private partnership.
